Our New Pets or...

How we have been overtaken by the hummingbirds.
Mom decided to try hanging the ole' feeder up to see if any were around.

I don't think any of us expected the turnout.

Due to the size and speediness of the little buggers we have only gotten a real count when they are all near the feeder. So far we know there are at least 4.

And this one here thinks he's the ringleader. Boy is he bossy. He's quite territorial over the feeder which is quite funny when it's empty and we're trying to refill it. I've never really wanted to wear my glasses except when you see one of those coming at your head.

I'll post more pictures and possibly a video after I do a little more research to see if we can't find out exactly what species these are.

  1. You got some great pictures!! They get very territorial here too. We've only had 2 at a time around here. You're lucky to be seeing so many!

  2. Wonderful photos! I've only seen on thus far this year, once the butterfly garden kicks in we'll have a handful of hummingbirds. Saw hummingbird food at the big box store the other day red food coloring in it too, red food coloring is not good for them.

  3. Yep, we have a Anna's Hummingbird we named Peetree! He would just sit there waiting for his photo to be taken- so cute! Head on over and look at my post 'Peetree Again'- he's just so cute! I'm afraid I became a bit of a hummingbird nut after discovering him ;)

  4. I have my feeders up but so far no hummers visiting. I love hummingbirds and to me it is always a sure sign that spring if finally here. Good close up shots, too!

  5. Yeah I was amazed at the photos I got too! How can I get such clear pics of these little guys but yet my kids come out blurry more often than not?

I'm still confused as to what species they are the more pics I look at the more I go crosseyed.
